Malaysian Kuih Gunting Snack

Ingredients

  • 4 cups wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 large onion or 5 shallots
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • A handful of anchovies or dried shrimp
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds (optional)
  • Spring onions, finely chopped
  • Curry leaves
  • Cold water with ice, as needed

Preparation

  1. Slice the onion or shallots and garlic, then fry lightly until slightly cooked.

  2. Pound the anchovies or dried shrimp.

  3. Mix all ingredients together and knead with cold water little by little until the dough is soft.

  4. Divide the dough into 3 or 4 balls and roll each one out flat.

  5. Fry the rolled dough briefly in a wok to prevent sticking.

  6. Cut the dough into pieces using scissors.

  7. Add curry leaves during the frying process.

  8. Drain and serve.

Tips

  1. Serve during festive occasions, as an evening snack while watching television, or sell it.
