Syrup-Soaked Turkish Semolina Cookies

Ingredients

Syrup

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • Quarter lemon

Dough

  • 125 grams butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • Slightly more than half a cup powdered sugar
  • 2.5 tablespoons semolina
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 tea glass vegetable oil
  • 2.5 cups flour

Preparation

  1. Put sugar, water, and lemon in a pot, bring to a boil, boil for 5 minutes, and let cool.

  2. In a mixing bowl, add all dough ingredients except flour and mix well.

  3. Gradually add flour and knead into a soft dough, adjusting flour amount based on egg size if necessary.

  4. Shape the dough into walnut-sized pieces and place on an ungreased baking tray.

  5. Brush the pieces with a mixture of egg yolk and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil.

  6. Use a fork to make scratches on the surface.

  7. Preheat the oven to 175°C and bake until golden brown.

  8. Pour the cooled syrup over the hot cookies and let it absorb.
