Turkish Walnut Roll Dessert
Ingredients
Dough
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine (100g)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup semolina
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons yogurt
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1 packet baking powder
- approximately 3 cups flour
Filling
- sufficient crushed walnuts
Syrup
- 3 cups sugar
- 3.5 cups water
- one thin slice lemon
Preparation
Knead the dough ingredients by hand in a deep bowl.
Place the dough on parchment paper, press it down slightly, cover with another sheet of parchment paper, and roll it out thinly with a rolling pin.
Trim the edges with a knife to make them straight.
Spread the finely crushed walnut filling over the dough and press it down with your hands.
Cut the dough into thin strips as described.
Make a cut through the middle of the dough.
Roll up the strips into rolls and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 30 minutes.
Pour the cold syrup over the baked rolls and let them rest for about 4 hours.
Serve sprinkled with pine nuts.
Syrup
Combine the syrup ingredients in a pot and stir until it boils.
After boiling, simmer on low heat for 18 minutes.
Turn off the heat and let it cool completely; it should be very cold, and preparing it a day in advance is recommended for better results.
Tips
Ensure the syrup is very cold to achieve the best texture.
Preparing the syrup a day ahead enhances the flavor.
