Indonesian Steamed Tofu with Salted Egg

Ingredients

  • 2 cooked salted eggs
  • 8 pieces of tofu (can be increased to 10)
  • Banana leaves
  • Green onions
  • Basil leaves
  • Bird's eye chilies

Spice paste

  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 shallots
  • 3 red chilies
  • 3 candlenuts
  • 1 cm piece of kencur
  • Granulated sugar
  • Pepper
  • Salt

Preparation

  1. Prepare all ingredients.

  2. Mash the tofu with a fork.

  3. Grind the spice paste ingredients or slice them as preferred.

  4. Mix the mashed tofu with sliced green onions and the prepared spices, then stir well.

  5. Add chopped basil leaves.

  6. Prepare banana leaves for wrapping and wrap the salted eggs and bird's eye chilies with a layer of the tofu mixture.

  7. Seal the botok packets tightly and heat the steamer.

  8. Steam over medium heat for 15 minutes.

  9. Serve with warm rice.

Notes

  1. Salted eggs must be cooked before use.

  2. The spice mixture can be ground or sliced based on preference.
