Bangka-Style Yellow Fish Soup with Pineapple

Ingredients

  • White pomfret fish
  • Pineapple (not too ripe)

Spices

  • 5 cloves red onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 3 cm galangal
  • 3 cm turmeric
  • 5 curly red chilies
  • Bird's eye chili (optional, for spiciness)
  • Tamarind juice (as needed)
  • Sugar (as needed)
  • Salt (as needed)
  • Shrimp paste (as needed)
  • Mushroom seasoning (as needed)

Preparation

  1. Grind all the spices into a paste.

  2. Mix the spice paste with tamarind juice and add to a pot with pineapple.

  3. Cook until boiling, then reduce the heat.

  4. Add sugar, salt, and mushroom seasoning.

  5. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

  6. Add the pomfret fish.

  7. Cook until the fish is done, then remove from heat.
