Indonesian Steamed Putu Mayang Dessert

Ingredients

  • 125 grams rice flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 300 ml boiling water
  • red or green food coloring as needed

Coconut sauce

  • 250 ml coconut milk
  • 100 grams palm sugar, finely sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 pandan leaves

Preparation

  1. Line the steamer basket with a clean cloth, place the dry rice flour on it, and steam for 30 minutes.

  2. Remove the rice flour from the steamer, place in a pan, add salt, pour boiling water over it, stir with a spatula, and let it cool slightly.

  3. Knead the mixture with a spatula until smooth, add desired food coloring, and mix well.

  4. Put the dough into a Putu Mayang mold, press out, shape as desired, and continue until all dough is used.

  5. Steam the cakes again until cooked, about 30 minutes.

  6. For the sauce, boil coconut milk, palm sugar, salt, and pandan leaves, stirring until it boils, then turn off the heat.

  7. Serve the cake with the sauce.

Tips

  1. This dish can also be served cold; chill in the refrigerator or add ice cubes as preferred.
