Traditional Malaysian Steamed Layer Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rice flour
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 cups fresh coconut milk
  • 2 cups water

Preparation

  1. Blend all ingredients together until smooth

  2. Strain the mixture to remove any lumps

  3. Divide the strained mixture into two equal parts

  4. Add a pinch of salt to one part to enhance richness

  5. Add rose coloring or syrup to the other part for color

  6. Pour the mixtures into a greased steaming pan layer by layer, steaming each layer for 5 minutes

  7. Steam the final layer for 10 minutes or until set
