Foolproof Classic Fruit Crumble

Ingredients

  • 160g (1.2 cup or 5.6 oz) any flour
  • 100g (1/2 cup or 4 oz) any sugar
  • 100g (1/2 cup or 4 oz) butter or margarine
  • 2 tbsp oats (or 2 tbsp flour if you don't have/like oats)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground almonds (optional)

Preparation

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 200c/400f/gas mark 6.

  2. Put everything into a bowl and mix using a spoon or your fingertips to create a fine breadcrumb texture.

  3. Pour the crumble mix over your chosen part-cooked fruit. Use any size oven-safe dish, such as a 24cm by 36cm dish. Cook for 35-40 minutes. Alternatively, bake the crumble separately by scattering the breadcrumbs onto a baking tray and add to cooked fruit afterwards.

  4. Serve hot with custard, cream, ice cream or yoghurt.

Notes

  1. For a vegan version, use dairy-free margarine.

  2. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour, almond flour, or gluten-free oats.
