Cheesy Dough Balls

Ingredients

  • 450g plain flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 2 tbsp milk powder (optional, works without too)_
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • warm water as needed
  • for filling/top:
  • 3 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • fresh chopped coriander/parsley

Preparation

  1. Place the flour, sugar, salt, yeast and milk powder (if you're using this) in a large mixing bowl, mix ingredients

  2. Add 1 cup warm milk, mix until the milk is absorbed

  3. Add 1 tbsp of warm water at a time until the mixture starts to come together as a ball of dough, knead for a few minutes until smooth

  4. Oil the dough, place in a bowl, cover and leave somewhere warm to prove for one hour

  5. After proving, cut the dough into 16 equal sized pieces

  6. Roll the smaller balls in the palms of your hand until round

  7. Take a rolling pin, roll out the balls, place a small amount of cheese filling inside and then close the ends together, pinch tightly to seal

  8. Place the filled balls in a greased ovenproof dish/cast iron skillet, leave space between the balls as they will expand

  9. Leave somewhere warm to prove again for 45 - 60 mins or until the balls have expanded

  10. Bake in a hot oven gas mark 7, 220°c electric, 200°c fan oven for between 25 - 30 minutes

  11. Whilst the balls bake prepare your garlic butter; add 1 grated clove of garlic and some chopped coriander/parsley to 3 tbsp melted butter

  12. Brush this over the baked dough balls once they come out of the oven and serve immediately

  13. This goes great as a side dish to pizzas, soups, lasagne and anything else you can think of, enjoy!
