Quick Cheese Flower Appetizer
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons powdered milk
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup warm water
Filling
- 200 grams cubed cheese
Decoration
- 1 large egg white
- 1/4 cup za'atar
- 1/4 cup sumac
Preparation
In a mixer bowl, place the flour, yeast, baking powder, salt, sugar, and milk powder. Attach the dough hook and run on low speed for a few seconds to mix the ingredients, then add the oil and knead for 2 minutes.
Add the water and knead on medium speed until you get a soft dough that separates from the bowl.
In a deep oiled bowl, place the dough, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
Prepare a 10-inch baking tray and grease it with oil.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a disk shape with 1/2 cm thickness using a rolling pin.
Using a 2-inch cookie cutter, cut the dough.
Take a piece of dough, place half a cheese cube in the center, and close the dough into a half-circle shape.
Dip the closed edge of the dough in the egg white, then in the za'atar, and place the pastry in the tray.
For the next piece, place half a cheese cube in the center, close the dough, dip the closed edge in egg white then in sumac, place in the tray. Repeat with the remaining dough to form a flower shape, cover the tray with plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled in size.
Place the rack in the middle of the oven, preheat to 200°C, and bake for 10 minutes.
