Crispy Brazilian Street Fair Fried Pastries
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water (or a little more)
- 3 tablespoons oil
- 1 tablespoon cachaça
- 1 level tablespoon salt
- all-purpose flour, for dusting
Preparation
Place the flour mixed with salt in a bowl or on a work surface and make a well in the center
In the well, add the oil, cachaça, and a little water
Gradually mix the water and flour, incorporating a little more flour from the edge of the well each time
If the dough becomes too stiff, add more water. The dough should be soft. If it is a bit sticky, it is okay. If too sticky, add more flour. If too stiff, add more water
On a floured surface, roll out the dough until it is very thin (if not thin, it will not be crispy after frying)
Fill with your favorite filling and seal with a fork
Fry in hot oil (not too hot) over medium-high heat and drain using a slotted spoon before placing on paper towels to dry
Tips
Yields 15 large pastries (fair-size)
