Original Turkish Pastry Poğaça

Ingredients

  • 250 grams butter at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 2 eggs (one yolk reserved for topping)
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • Half package fresh yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5.5-6 cups flour

Filling

  • Any desired filling

Topping

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Preparation

  1. Put all ingredients except flour into a mixing bowl and mix well

  2. Add flour gradually and knead into a soft dough that does not stick to the hands

  3. Without letting it rise, divide the dough into pieces and shape into balls, making 16 pieces

  4. Let the balls rest for 5 minutes to rise

  5. Press the center of each ball, add filling, and close it up

  6. Press the center with hands

  7. Brush with egg yolk and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius
