Turkish Sugar Pare Dessert
Ingredients
- 500 grams flour
- 150 grams powdered sugar
- 200 grams margarine
- 50 grams semolina
- 70 grams ground hazelnuts
- 20 grams baking powder
- 2 packages (unspecified)
- 3 whole eggs
- 2 egg yolks
Syrup
- 1000 grams granulated sugar
- 5 cups water
- half lemon juice
Preparation
Ensure margarine is at room temperature and not too hard, then mix all the ingredients together and knead well
Shape the dough into balls and place them on a baking tray
Brush the tops with egg yolk and set aside some egg yolk for later use
Let it rest for a bit, then brush with egg yolk again
If available, dip the tops in hazelnuts or score with a fork
Preheat the oven to 60 degrees Celsius and bake for 10 minutes to allow rising
Remove from oven, increase oven temperature to 165 degrees Celsius
Once the oven reaches temperature, put the sugar pare back in and bake for 15 minutes
Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by placing it on the stove, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer
Remove the sugar pare from the oven and pour the hot syrup over it
Let it rest for a while, then drain any excess syrup and serve
