Turkish Walnut Syrup Dessert

Ingredients

Syrup

  • 3.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 3.5 cups water
  • Quarter lemon

Dough

  • 100 grams butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 3 to 3.5 cups flour
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 cup crushed walnuts

Preparation

  1. Combine sugar and water in a pot and bring to a boil.

  2. After boiling for 15 minutes, add lemon juice and boil for a few more minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.

  3. In a bowl, mix butter, vegetable oil, milk, vinegar, flour, and baking powder until well combined.

  4. Add crushed walnuts and stir to incorporate.

  5. Grease a baking dish with a little vegetable oil and spread the dough evenly in it, cutting into desired shapes if preferred.

  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 160°C until golden brown, about 1 hour.

  7. Remove from the oven and pour cold syrup evenly over the hot dessert; it will absorb over time.

  8. Before serving, recut along the existing cuts for clean slices.
