Turkish Walnut Syrup Dessert
Ingredients
Syrup
- 3.5 cups powdered sugar
- 3.5 cups water
- Quarter lemon
Dough
- 100 grams butter at room temperature
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 3 to 3.5 cups flour
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 cup crushed walnuts
Preparation
Combine sugar and water in a pot and bring to a boil.
After boiling for 15 minutes, add lemon juice and boil for a few more minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
In a bowl, mix butter, vegetable oil, milk, vinegar, flour, and baking powder until well combined.
Add crushed walnuts and stir to incorporate.
Grease a baking dish with a little vegetable oil and spread the dough evenly in it, cutting into desired shapes if preferred.
Bake in a preheated oven at 160°C until golden brown, about 1 hour.
Remove from the oven and pour cold syrup evenly over the hot dessert; it will absorb over time.
Before serving, recut along the existing cuts for clean slices.
