Spinach, Onion, and Cheese Stuffed Bread

Ingredients

Bread dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Filling

  • 1 cup thinly sliced fresh spinach
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onion
  • 1/4 cup shredded vegan cheese (any type)
  • 1 tablespoon sumac

Additional

  • olive oil
  • sumac
  • salt

Preparation

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients.

  2. Add water gradually until the dough comes together and is soft but not sticky.

  3. Let it rest for half an hour and prepare the filling in the meantime.

  4. Divide the dough into 8 portions, shape them into balls, and set aside.

  5. Roll out one ball and spread a tablespoon of the filling over it.

  6. Cover with another rolled-out piece, ensure there are no air pockets, then brush the surface with oil and sprinkle with sumac and salt.

  7. Heat a skillet over high heat and cook the bread on the oiled side.

  8. Brush the other side with the same mixture and flip when small bubbles form.

  9. Cook the other side until done and serve hot.
