Spicy Tahu Gejrot Indonesian Snack

Ingredients

  • Tofu (brown or Sumedang variety)

Sauce

  • 300 ml water
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind
  • 75 grams palm sugar or 2 pieces
  • 6 shallots
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Bird's eye chilies to taste
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

  1. Boil water, add tamarind and palm sugar. Wait until dissolved, then turn off heat.

  2. Strain the sugar water.

  3. Pound bird's eye chili, shallots, garlic, and a little salt.

  4. Add the sauce to the mortar.

  5. Cut the tofu into pieces, arrange on a plate, and pour the sauce over it. Enjoy.
