Homemade Turkish Striped Pastry

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 packet fresh yeast
  • 1.5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 kg flour

Filling

  • 250 grams white cheese

Preparation

  1. Add lukewarm water, lukewarm milk, yeast, sugar, and egg white to a mixing bowl and mix well.

  2. Gradually add flour and salt to knead a soft dough.

  3. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour.

  4. Take pieces of dough a bit larger than a walnut.

  5. Open the dough pieces and make cuts with a knife at the end.

  6. Put cheese at the end, close it, and roll it up.

  7. Place the poğaça on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spaced apart.

  8. Let them rest on the tray for 10-15 minutes.

  9. Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle sesame seeds.

  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius, top and bottom setting, until golden.

  11. After removing from the oven, cover with a damp cloth for 5 minutes.

Tips

  1. Use a 250 ml cup for measurements.

  2. The dough should be the consistency of an earlobe.

  3. This poğaça can be made and stored in the freezer.
