Brazilian Cheese Roll-Ups
Ingredients
Dough
- 5 tablespoons oil
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 5 grams dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 egg
- 500 grams all-purpose flour
Filling
- fresh cheese, thickly sliced
Preparation
Chop the thickly sliced fresh cheese and let it drain to remove excess liquid
Pat the drained cheese dry with paper towel
In a large bowl, mix together oil, sugar, salt, yeast, warm milk, and egg until well combined
Add half of the flour and mix until incorporated
Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough forms a firm ball that leaves the bowl clean
Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size
Divide the dough into equal portions
Shape each portion around a piece of prepared cheese to form rolls
Place the rolls on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise again until doubled
Preheat oven to medium heat
Brush the tops of the rolls with egg yolk
Bake until golden brown
Tips
For a sweet variation, dip baked rolls in condensed milk and roll in shredded coconut
