Apple Pie Flavored Oatmeal
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup oats (quick or rolled, or quick steel cut varieties)
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- Pinch of cardamom
- 2 tbsp chopped dried apples
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (add more if desired for looser consistency)
Apple topping
- 1 Fuji apple (thinly sliced)
- 1 tsp sweetener of choice (e.g., date syrup)
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp water
Preparation
Add all ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a low medium heat to simmer.
Stir oats with a spoon or spatula as it cooks for about 3 minutes.
Remove from stovetop and top oatmeal as desired.
Apple topping
Thinly slice a Fuji apple.
Cook the sliced apple on the stovetop with 1 teaspoon of sweetener, a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and 1 tablespoon of water.
Allow the apples to cook and brown until softened, then pour over the oatmeal.
