Turkish Cheesy Tray Borek

Ingredients

  • 6 sheets of phyllo dough
  • 2 eggs
  • 2.5 cups milk
  • half cup vegetable oil
  • 2 full tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • one large block of white cheese
  • half bunch parsley

For topping

  • Sesame seeds

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together the milk, yogurt, eggs, vegetable oil, and salt.

  3. Grease the bottom of the baking tray.

  4. Lay one phyllo sheet whole in the tray, allowing it to overhang the edges slightly.

  5. Sprinkle some of the milk mixture over the phyllo sheet.

  6. Cut the next two phyllo sheets into quarters.

  7. Dip the quartered phyllo pieces in the milk mixture and spread them evenly in the tray.

  8. Mix the white cheese and chopped parsley together, then spread this mixture evenly over the phyllo base.

  9. Dip the remaining three phyllo sheets in the milk mixture and layer them on top.

  10. Fold the overhanging edges of the phyllo over to cover the top.

  11. Pour the remaining milk mixture over the borek.

  12. Allow the borek to absorb some of the mixture, then cut it into pieces.

  13. Sprinkle sesame seeds or nigella seeds on top as desired.

  14. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown on both sides, about 40 minutes.

Notes
