Diy Gochujang Sauce Substitute
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons glutinous rice flour
- 3.5 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons shoyu
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 0.25 tablespoons salt
- 0.5 tablespoons vinegar
- 4 tablespoons chili powder (chili flakes optional)
Preparation
Mix glutinous rice flour with water until well combined. Cover with plastic wrap. Microwave for 15 seconds, let it rest briefly, then microwave for an additional 5 seconds. Stir until it forms a paste-like consistency.
Add shoyu and stir. Then add sugar, salt, vinegar, and chili powder, and stir until evenly mixed.
If the mixture is too thin, add more chili powder; if too thick, add more shoyu or water.
Notes
For those without a microwave, use a steaming method but only for a short time.
This substitute may not taste exactly like commercial gochujang but is worth trying.
The sauce is ready to use with your favorite foods.
