Turkish Kalburabastı Pastry
Ingredients
- 50 grams butter
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons semolina
- 2 tablespoons yogurt
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1 packet baking powder
- 2 cups flour
For the syrup
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 slice lemon
For the filling
- Walnuts or pistachios
Preparation
First, prepare the syrup by adding sugar, water, and a slice of lemon to a pot and boiling on medium heat for 11-12 minutes, then set aside to cool
In a bowl, combine all ingredients except flour and mix well
Gradually add flour and knead to form a soft, non-sticky dough
Divide the dough into 16 walnut-sized pieces and shape them, using a mold if available
Fill each piece with walnuts or pistachios, seal the edges, and place seam-side down on a baking sheet
Bake in a preheated 170°C oven with top and bottom heat until golden brown
Pour the cold syrup over the hot pastry and let it sit for 2-3 hours before serving
