Turkish Rose-Shaped Pastry
Ingredients
- 125g butter at room temperature
- Half a cup vegetable oil
- Half a cup yogurt
- 1 cup semolina
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1 packet baking powder
- 3 cups flour
Syrup
- 3 cups sugar
- 3 cups water
- Quarter lemon
Toppings
- Almonds
- Ground pistachio
Preparation
First, prepare the syrup so that it is cold when the dessert is hot.
Mix and knead the dough ingredients until a soft dough forms.
Divide the dough into 3-4 pieces, roll out each piece with a rolling pin, and cut into circles using a tea glass.
Take four cut circles, stack them by placing each one on half of the previous, roll up, and cut in half to form two rose shapes.
Place an almond or hazelnut in the center of each rose, or leave it empty.
Arrange the roses on a baking tray and bake in a 175-degree oven.
After baking, while still warm, pour the cold syrup over the pastries.
Let sit for 1-2 hours to absorb the syrup.
Notes
This dessert is ideal for iftar and bayram celebrations.
