Spiced Vanilla Chai Oatmeal with Caramelized Bananas
Ingredients
Homemade chai seasoning
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/3 teaspoon black pepper
Spiced vanilla chai oatmeal
- 2 black tea bags
- 1 cup water
- 2 teaspoons chai seasoning
- 1 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
- 2 cups plant milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Toppings
- Bananas
- 1 teaspoon vegan butter
- Cocoa nibs
- Blueberries
- Other toppings as desired
Preparation
Chai seasoning
Mix all the spices together and store in an airtight container. It can be used for homemade chai lattes and oats.
Oatmeal
In a medium saucepan, bring water, oat milk, chai seasoning, and tea bags to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently.
Remove the tea bags and stir in the oats. Cook until thick, about 5 minutes. Stir in vanilla extract and serve.
Topping
In a cast iron pan, caramelize bananas in 1 teaspoon of vegan butter until golden on one side.
Top the oats with caramelized bananas, cocoa nibs, blueberries, and any other desired toppings. Enjoy!
