Turkish Karniyarik Syrup Pastry
Ingredients
- 125 grams margarine at room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 packet vanilla
- Flour as needed for soft dough
Syrup
- 2.5 cups sugar
- 3 cups water
- 1 slice lemon
Coating
- Semolina
Topping
- Pistachios
Preparation
First, prepare the syrup and let it cool by boiling water and sugar until it boils, then add lemon slice and boil for 5-6 more minutes before removing from heat.
Mix all dough ingredients except flour.
Gradually add flour to form a soft dough that does not stick to hands.
Shape the dough into walnut-sized pieces and coat them in semolina.
Place on a baking sheet and score the tops with a knife without cutting through.
Bake in a preheated 180°C oven until lightly golden.
After baking, let the sweets cool slightly before pouring the cooled syrup over them.
Once the syrup is absorbed, fill the slits with pistachios and serve.
