Turkish Karniyarik Syrup Pastry

Ingredients

  • 125 grams margarine at room temperature
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • Flour as needed for soft dough

Syrup

  • 2.5 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 slice lemon

Coating

  • Semolina

Topping

  • Pistachios

Preparation

  1. First, prepare the syrup and let it cool by boiling water and sugar until it boils, then add lemon slice and boil for 5-6 more minutes before removing from heat.

  2. Mix all dough ingredients except flour.

  3. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough that does not stick to hands.

  4. Shape the dough into walnut-sized pieces and coat them in semolina.

  5. Place on a baking sheet and score the tops with a knife without cutting through.

  6. Bake in a preheated 180°C oven until lightly golden.

  7. After baking, let the sweets cool slightly before pouring the cooled syrup over them.

  8. Once the syrup is absorbed, fill the slits with pistachios and serve.
